SUNY Cobleskill Men's Indoor Track and Field Opens Season with Fifth Place Finish at Pioneer Invitational

The SUNY Cobleskill men’s indoor track & field team opened the 2016-17 season by posting team score of 44 points to place fifth in a six team field at the Pioneer Invitational #1 hosted by Utica College at the Pioneer’s Todd & Jenn Hutton Sports & Recreation Center. Individually the Fighting Tigers brought home five provisional New York State College Track & Conference (NYSCTC) Indoor Championship qualifying efforts from the event.

Sophomore multi-event athlete Zach Haskins, Warnerville, N.Y., Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, led the way for Cobleskill placing fifth in the pole vault by clearing a height of 12’ 9 ½” and sixth overall in the high jump clearing a height of 6’2” to meet the league provisional qualifying standard in each event while freshman sprinter Nino Gagliardi, Watervliet, N.Y., Watervliet High School, finished third overall in the 60-meter dash meeting the league provisional qualifying mark with a time of 7.41 seconds.

Freshman mid-distance runner Willie Griffin, Schoharie, N.Y., Schoharie High School, turned in the best individual placing of the meet for the team placing second overall in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:06.10.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action over the weekend when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa. for the 2016 Fast Times Before Finals Invitational hosted by Leigh University Friday December 9th and Saturday December 10th at the Mountain Hawks Rauch Fieldhouse.
