SUNY Women's Softball Swept by Keuka

Keuka Park, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women’s softball team took to the road on Sunday for a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader with the home standing Wolves of Keuka College. The Fighting Tigers struggled with Keuka pitching throughout the afternoon falling twice to the Wolves by scores of 5-0 and 10-2 to drop to 2-8 overall on the season including a 1-3 mark in NEAC play. With the sweep the host Wolves now improve to 9-5 on the campaign including a perfect 8-0 mark in league action.
In the first game the Fighting Tiger offense was held to only five hits with junior third baseman Hannah Hoffman, Troy, N.Y., Averill Park High School/Hudson Valley Community College, doing the bulk of the damage going 3-for-3 with a double in the contest while junior shortstop Jaimee Lord, Mechanicville, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles in the game.
In the nightcap the visiting Orange & Black were held to only four hits with Jaimee Lord going 1-for-3 with both of the team’s RBI.
Cobleskill will next be in action on Tuesday April 11th when they host the Wildcats of SUNY Polytechnic Institute at Fighting Tiger Park for a NEAC doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.

SUNY Men's Golf Places 11th at NYU Invitational

Bloomfield, N.Y..: After having their first three events cancelled due to weather, the SUNY Cobleskill men’s golf team golf team finally was able to open out the 2017 portion of their schedule over the weekend by posting rounds of 357 and 348 for a two-day total of 137-over par 705 to place 11th overall at the 2017 NYU Invitational hosted by New York University at the highly competitive par 71/6053 yard Forest Hill Field Club.
Sophomore Nate Stanton, Somers, Conn., Somers High School, was the team’s top finisher taking 49th place overall in the 59 player field posting scores of 90 and 84 for a two-day total of 32-over par 174 for the tournament.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Wednesday April 12th at the Keuka College Invitational hosted by the Wolves at the par 72/6663 yard Lakeside Country Club in Penn Yan, N.Y. beginning at 10:00 a.m.

SUNY Women's Track Competes in PA

West Chester, Pa.: The SUNY Cobleskill women’s track & field team continued the 2017 outdoor season over the weekend competing at the WCU Invitational hosted by West Chester University at the college’s John A. Farrell Stadium.

The Fighting Tigers brought home a pair of New York State College Track Conference (NYSCTC) provisional outdoor championship qualifying efforts from the non-scoring meet.
On the track, senior hurdler Emily Belewich, Ava, N.Y., Adirondack High School, placing seventh overall in the 100-hurdles in a time of 16.91 seconds to meet the provisional qualifying mark while in the field sophomore Ashley Kent, Cazenovia, N.Y., Cazenovia High School, met the provisional mark in the triple jump with a mark of 9.68 meters.

Cobleskill will next be in action on Saturday April 15th when they travel to Troy, N.Y. for the 2017 Upstate Classic hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) at the Engineers’ Ned Harkness Track beginning at 10:00 a.m.

SUNY Men’s Track and Field Brings Home Qualifying Effort in PA

West Chester, Pa.: The SUNY Cobleskill men’s track & field team continued their 2017 outdoor season over the weekend making the trip to the 2017 WCU Invitational hosted by West Chester University at the college’s John A. Farrell Stadium.
The Fighting Tigers brought home a New York State College Track Conference (NYSCTC) automatic qualifying effort along with five provisional outdoor championship qualifying efforts from the non-scoring meet.
Sophomore multi-event performer Zach Haskin, Warnerville, N.Y., Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, turned in the top effort of the meet for the Orange & Black meeting the league’s automatic qualifying standard in the high jump with a leap of 1.85 meters to place third in the event to go with a seventh place finish in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 16.85 seconds to meet the conference’s provisional qualifying standard in the event.
In the sprints freshman Joel Fitzgerald, Mount Vernon, N.Y., Mount Saint Michael High School, met the league’s provision qualifying marks in the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash; placing 10th in the 200-meters in a time of 23.37 seconds to go with a fourth place finish in the 400-meters in a time of 51,49 seconds.
Sophomore thrower Thomas Coene, Ontario, N.Y., Thomas Webster High School, was also a factor at the meet placing eighth in the discus with a NYSCTC provisional qualifying mark of 38.59 meters to go with a 10th place finish in the hammer throw meeting the conference provisional qualifying mark of 34.12 meters.

SUNY Women's Softball Splits Doubleheader

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women’s softball team broke a five-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon splitting a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) games versus the visiting Wells College Express losing the opener 6-5 then taking the nightcap by a 12-11 margin in 11innings at Fighting Tiger Park. With the split Cobleskill moves to 2-6 overall on the season with a 1-1 mark in conference action while Wells improves to 1-9 overall on the year with a 1-5 NEAC record.
In the first game the home team saw a 3-2 lead disappear in the seventh inning as The Express pushed across four runs in the tip of the frame as opposed to the two that the Orange & Black could post in the bottom of the inning.
Freshman second baseman Quesha Sells, Cobleskill, N.Y., Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, was a factor at the plate for the Fighting Tigers in the game going 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and a RBI while sophomore catcher Gabrielle Danthine, Sloansville, N.Y., Schoharie High School, went 3-for-4 with a double a run scored and a RBI.
With the second game tied at nine after seven innings, Wells struck for a pair of runs in the top of the eighth to take an 11-9 lead heading into the bottom of the inning.
The Fighting Tigers then showed their claws putting runners on first and third for junior third baseman Hannah Hoffman, Troy, N.Y., Averill Park High School/Hudson Valley Community College, who promptly tripled to right center field to tie the contest at 11-11. After Cobleskill subsequently loaded the bases, Hoffman scored the game winning run on a walk-off single by sophomore right fielder Eternity Coons, Rensselaer, N.Y., Rensselaer High School, to end the nearly three hour long affair.
Hoffman was the hitting star of the game going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, a triple, two runs scored and six RBI while sophomore second baseman Georgiana Crisci, Newburgh, N.Y., Valley Central High School, went 4-for-5 with four runs scores, a double and a RBI.
Gabrielle Danthine continued her hot hitting in the nightcap going 3-for-4 with a double and a RBI while Eternity Coons posted a 2-for-5 effort with a double and the game winning RBI.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action when they take to the road on Sunday, April 9th, for a 1:00 p.m. NEAC doubleheader versus Keuka College in Keuka Park, N.Y.  Wolves’ Campus Softball Field.
