Only a portion of this home on East Hubbell Hill Road, Margaretville was left standing after a devastating fire that broke out on Saturday, Nov. 18.
Firefighters from Margaretville, Halcottsville, Arkville, Fleischmanns and Roxbury responded to the scene. Volunteers from the Bovina Fire Department set up a water supply and Arena firefighters were alerted for standby assistance.
In an eerie coincidence, the Margaretville Chief said a fire five days earlier on Taco Lane leveled a home about 500 yards from Saturday’s blaze.
A smoke alarm was credited with allowing two residents and a dog to escape this Margaretville fire uninjured. The home was a complete loss.
Chief Delameter said deeply rutted and muddy roads resulted in several heavy emergency vehicles getting stuck and requiring towing services.
