K-9 DEXTER HELPS LOCATE DRUGS DURING TRAFFIC STOP
DELHI - Delaware County District Attorney Shawn J. Smith announced that Patrick A. Ladd, 41 of Walton, New York, was convicted of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree (possession with intent to sell), a Class C felony, in Delaware County Court on March 25, 2024.
The defendant appeared in Delaware County Court on March 25, 2024, for a conference on his pending indictment. After the conference, the defendant pleaded guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class C felony. Prior to pleading guilty, the defendant admitted that he possessed 2 grams of methamphetamine and 13 bags of heroin while he was in the Village of Walton on December 17, 2023. The defendant further admitted that he planned to sell those drugs.
After pleading guilty, the Honorable John L. Hubbard sentenced the defendant to serve 4 years in state prison and 2 years of post-release supervision. The defendant was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to begin serving his sentence.
District Attorney Shawn Smith commended Delaware County Sheriff Deputy Justin Mohr and his K-9 partner Dexter for their great work on this case. “This case began as a traffic stop for failure to properly use the vehicle’s turn signal. Thanks to the thorough investigation conducted by Deputy Mohr and K-9 Dexter, the Sheriff’s Office was able to locate a large quantity of illegal narcotics and prevent these dangerous drugs from being sold in our community.”
