Thorpe, Kelly Win in Tannersville

By Max Oppen

Tannersville—In the March 19 election in the Village of Tannersville, incumbent Trustee Gregory Thorpe secured his seat for a two-year term. Republican George Kelly will replace sitting Trustee Mary Sue Timpson, who decided not to run for another term.

Kelly's term begins April 1 at noon.

The election, held on March 19, saw 74 voters cast 130 votes, with Trustee Thorpe garnering 63 votes to maintain his position. Meanwhile, George Kelly claimed victory with 52 votes, while Democrat Andrew Tepper trailed with 15. Additionally, there were three write-in candidates.

According to the Greene County Board of Elections, there are 428 active voters in the Village.

Expressing his gratitude for the overwhelming support from Republican voters, Kelly exclaimed, "I am ecstatic that the Republican voters came out to support myself, a non-politician, in an overwhelming victory. The voters from the mountaintop in the majestic Village of Tannersville have spoken... thank you... a great day for the average Joe."

In response to the election results, Trustee Thorpe, who ran on both Democrat and Republican party lines, extended his appreciation to the residents of Tannersville for their participation. "Although the election did not bring in the biggest turnout, I'd like to thank all of the Village of Tannersville residents who came out and participated in Tuesday's election," Thorpe remarked.

"I am excited to continue working alongside the Mayor and other Trustees, as well as Mr. Kelly, who was also elected on Tuesday. I believe that together, we will continue to make Tannersville a better place."
