Schoharie (Schoharie County)- Peter Clifford Wilkinson died on December 20, 2024, at the Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville, NY. He was 44 years of age.
Born on August 4, 1980, he was the son of John and the late Sue Ann Wilkinson.
He is survived by his father John Wilkinson (Ruth Anne), his siblings, John Elliott (Jill), Meg Elliott, Chris Wilkinson (Tara), Michael Wilkinson (Anna), and his nieces Mckayla and Fiona Wilkinson, Liza, Grace and Gretchen Elliott, and his nephew Connor Wilkinson.
Peter attended Schoharie Central School, and High Mowing School, a Waldorf High School in Wilton, NH. He and his cat Tux lived in the village of Schoharie. His favorite occupation was landscaping, and what he called stone scaping — building stone retaining walls, stone pathways and patios. He turned lawn mowing into an art form, and was particularly proud of his work at the Schoharie Valley Railroad Museum complex on Depot Lane in Schoharie. He was skilled at fixing small motors and could generally make the most stubborn lawn implement work again. He was an expert at finding turtle rocks by diving in the Schoharie Creek. Many of his friends and neighbors have these turtle rocks in their gardens.
He loved warm places and the sun in winter. He first traveled to Costa Rica with his mother. After that, he often spent winters in Costa Rica and Nicaragua, where he became proficient in Spanish.
In addition to his community in Schoharie, Peter was a full-fledged citizen of the internet with many friends around the world. He also researched everything from how to create the perfect meme to the best peach crisp recipe to where to get a copy of a rare film. This curiosity and care was reflected in the thoughtful, often handmade gifts he gave to family members and friends. Those who knew him are familiar with his sometimes salty sense of humor and spicy opinions. He is much loved by his family and friends and will be missed.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 4 from 2 to 4 pm, at the Langan Funeral Home, 327 Main Street, Schoharie. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave, Gloversville, NY 12078. Peter chose to be there in his final days and they provided him with great care and compassion.
