COBLESKILL - At the latest CRCS Board of Education meeting last Wednesday, the high school’s entrepreneurship class held a small presentation to give a run-down on all the things they’re looking to do this year.
The class continues to run a small cafe within the school for students and teachers alike, but they completely restructure the business from year to year, allowing new students to run the operation with brand-new ideas.
This time around, the coffee shop has rebranded to DJ Cafe, with a huge musical influence being found in everything they do.
While the shop still offers things like punch cards for free drinks and merchandise like sweaters and shirts, DJ Cafe will also take pride in their playlist featuring under-represented artists and regular events for karaoke and live music.
For this year, the class was also gifted a rental full-size 4Jacks Nitro Cold Brew machine that will expand their selection of drinks. With its retail price being valued at $5,800, it may become the flagship piece of equipment for DJ Cafe.
The Board was also able to hear remarks from the general manager, financial advisor, and social media manager about what they do, going into detail about looking through spreadsheets and preparing the shop early in the morning, and how they’re always on the lookout for new trends to get students more involved.
They also praised the other roles that could not make it to the presentation, giving special thanks to the delivery runner that gets supplies from Brickhouse Bakery, the IT manager that comes up with their branding, and the student that runs the shop alone during the second period.
When the presentation concluded, the Board was ecstatic about the idea, with President Bruce Tryon shaking the general manager’s hand.
“I love, love, love this,” he said. “The real world experience you guys are getting is absolutely fantastic.”
With the Board’s blessing, DJ Cafe will continue to serve its customers until next year, when the cafe is rebranded once more.
