MCS Girls Rally to Beat Mekeel Christian

Staff Report

MIDDLEBURGH - The Middleburgh girls rallied for a 39-33 WAC crossover victory at Mekeel Christian last Wednesday.

Middleburgh trailed 30-25 heading into the final quarter but outscored Mekeel 14-3 in the final eight minutes to avenge an earlier season loss.

MCS trailed 11-4 after the first eight minutes and 19-12 at the half. The Knights trimmed the deficit to 30-25 heading into the fourth quarter.

In the girls first WAC crossover, the Knights started off slowly but they showed grit and determination to stay close. There was a clear momentum shift that carried into the fourth quarter and when it mattered most the team scored 14 point while limiting Mekeel to three points and winning the game, said the MCS Coach.

Payton Yung led the Knights with 18 points, 18 rebounds, five steals, and two blocks. Kay Layton scored seven points, grabbed five rebounds, and two steals. Lyla Kowalski added six points and five rebounds. Emma Lacko scored three points, and added three rebounds, two assists and one steal.
