It’s been a rather cold February and a more than snowy winter! As I’ve been told by many, this type of winter is more typical to our region than the previous years of more mild winters. Those that participate in winter sports like snowmobiling, ice fishing, etc. have had some of the best conditions in years!
Starting with some very nice weather on Saturday, looks like we’re in for a warm up with our average daily highs jumping up to the 30s or above through next week. Very little or no precipitation is expected with some periods of partial sun too! Savor the change as we aren’t out of the winter woods yet!
While things start to warm up, don’t forget your good winter driving etiquette. There have been quite a few accidents in the area this year. Please remember, safety over speed!
Bison Island Ranch of Sharon Springs, NY is hosting the first annual Bison Island Winter Fest this Saturday February 22nd from 2:00 - 6:00 PM with Live Ice Sculpting, sledding, beer & wine, photo ops, free hot cocoa, and so much more! The Sap House at Stone House Farm in Sharon Springs is BACK now through April 19th for their 25th Season of these beloved weekend Pancake breakfasts! Blue Star Farm & Cidery is open on the weekends at their new location on Route 20 near Log House. They are now making and serving their own sweet cider, with more products available for purchase too! Parsons Vegetable Farm has limited seasonal items available like cabbage!! Check out their social media for more info! The Outrageous Snack Snack is closed for the season but we’re already looking forward to fresh donuts in the Spring!
Sharon Springs Free Library News: Story Time is at 10:00 AM on Thursday mornings and includes a story, craft, and snack. Winter hours have started and the Library is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays from 1:00 - 6:00 PM, Mondays & Thursdays from 10:00 - 6:00 PM, Saturdays 10:00 -1:00 PM, and Sundays - Closed. Sharon Springs Food Pantry
Your local Sharon Springs Food Pantry is an excellent local resource for all! They are located in the United Methodist Church on Route 20, across from the school (511 US Route 20, Sharon’s Springs, NY 13459). They are always accepting donations! Sharon Sr. Congregate Meal Site
Local residents are invited to enjoy good company and a noon-time meal year round (except holidays) at the Schoharie County OFA’s “Spa Ritz” Sr. Congregate Meal Site at the Firehouse at 137 Beechwood Rd. M-W-F. 8 oz of 1% milk is served with each meal. Orders for meals must be called into the OFA office at (518) 295-2001 before 2 p.m. for the following day. Effective January 1st the suggested donation for those 60 years old and older is $5.00 per meal. Under age 60? You’re welcome to participate for a fee of $7.50 per meal.
