Thomas and Barbara Valosin, of Middleburgh, were recently honored by the Schoharie County Amateur Radio Association by being awarded Honorary Life Memberships in the association. The radio club is currently in its 79th year and this is the first time in their history that members were granted Life Memberships.
The nomination for the honors was put forth by fellow association members, Kevin Heckman, Sean McCorkle, and Dennis Bulgar. Their resolution cited the Valosins decades of service to the local club as well as amateur radio in general. Some of their activities have included annual field days, winter field days, various contests, weather and emergency communications, educating and assisting other amateur radio operators, just to name a few. In addition, both Tom and Barb served for many years as Officers of the club. Tom is the immediate past Vice President and Barb is the immediate past Secretary.
Tom is also an Assistant Section Manager, serving in the Northern New York Section of the ARRL, a national amateur radio organization. The section includes nine northern New York counties in addition to Schoharie.
When asked, soon after receiving the honor, both Tom and Barb expressed their very deep appreciation and surprise. They added that they plan to continue their involvement for many more years to come.
