Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team closed the weekend North Atlantic Conference (NAC) weekend series with the visiting Wildcats of the SUNY Polytechnic Institute by the Wildcats by scores of 13-0 and 6-4. With the sweep the Fighting Tigers moved into first place in the NAC Western Division improving to 8-10 overall with a 3-0 NAC record on the year while the Wildcats fell to 7-14 overall on the year with a 0-3 record in conference divisional action.
In the first game the Fighting Tigers dominated the action using an eight-run second inning outburst to decide the issue highlighted by a run scoring triple by junior Matthew Snyder, Latham, N.Y., Shaker High School, and a run scoring single by junior shortstop David Flora, Windsor, N.Y., Windsor High School.
Staked to an early 8-0 lead, senior southpaw Devin Lewis, Cobleskill, N.Y., Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, hurled six inning of shutout baseball allowing only two hits whild striking out five and walking only one.
At the plate Cobleskill was led by Matthew Snyder who was 2-for-5 with a triple, a stolen base, two runs scored and three RBI and by sophomore centerfielder Zach Ducorsky, Oceanside, N.Y., Oceanside High School, who was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, Sophomore Stephen Tejada, Queens, N.Y., High School for Construction, was also a key contributor going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI
The nightcap saw the Fighting Tigers once again take the lead in the second inning with a four-run frame highlighted by a lead-off home run by shortstop David Flora and an RBI double by first-year right fielder Logan Firment, Andes, N.Y., South Kortright High School, to give the home team a 4-0 advantage.
After the Wildcats had cut the lead to 4-2, Cobleskill added insurance runs in the fourth on an RBI double by senior third baseman Frank Leger, Bronx, N.Y., All Hallows High School, and a run scoring triple by left fielder Matthew Snyder.
Sophomore starter Andrew Jarkow, Glen Head, N.Y., North Shore High School, worked 6.1 innings to get the win strike out five with relief help from first-year left hander Connor Mulligan, Cheshire, N.Y., Cheshire High School, who recorded the final two outs of the game for his first collegiate save.
Frank Leger was the offensive catalyst from the lead-off spot going 3-fo4 with a double, a run scored and three RBI while first-year first baseman Dylan Schwam, Cooper City, Fla., South Plantation High School, went 2-for-2 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.
The Orange & Black will return to action on Tuesday April 11 when they travel to Marcy, N.Y. for a NAC doubleheader versus the Wildcats of SUNY Polytechnic with first pitch slated for 1:00 p.m.
