Fighting Tigers Western Equestrian Closes Semester with Sweep at Morrisville State Shows to Move Into First Place in Region

The SUNY Cobleskill western equestrian team closed out the semester in impressive fashion on Saturday winning pair of Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 2 Region 3 events hosted by Morrisville State College. With the victories the Fighting Tigers will close out the 2016 portion of their schedule in first place among the regional teams heading into the winter break.

In the day’s first show the Fighting Tigers recorded a team total of 26 points to out distance the five-team field then came back in the second show to post a score of 33 points to once again better the other five teams entered. The 59 points accumulated at the shows now raises the team’s region leading point total to 167 on the year to date.     

Junior Morgan O’Sullivan, Killington, Conn. Middletown High School, was the Fighting Tigers top performer taking High Point Rider Honors in both shows winning in Open Western Horsemanship to go with a third place effort in the Open Reigning in the first show and in the second show by winning in Open Reigning and in Open Western Horsemanship. With her performances on Saturday, O’Sullivan is currently the top ranked rider in the region heading into the winter hiatus. 

The Fighting Tigers received additional wins in the first show from senior Emily McLaughlin, Delanson, N.Y., Schalmont High School, who won in Advanced Western Horsemanship and from sophomore Wyatt Morley, Cheshire, Conn., Cheshire Academy, who won in Intermediate Horsemanship.

In the second show the Orange & Black also received wins from junior Courtney Preston, Little Valley, N.Y., Cattaraugus-Little Valley High School, in Advanced Western Horsemanship, and junior Ashley Foland, Schoharie, N.Y., Schoharie High School, who won in Intermediate Horsemanship.

Cobleskill will return to action on Sunday February 19th when they return to Morrisville, N.Y. for a Zone 2 Region 3 competition hosted by Morrisville State College beginning at 9:00 a.m.
