Rep. Delgado Meets with Local Leaders

Written By Editor on 2/16/21 | 2/16/21

BROOME AND DELAWARE COUNTIES, NY – Today, U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) met with elected officials from the Village of Deposit, Town of Sanford, Town of Roxbury, Town of Bovina, and Delaware County to discuss direct federal COVID-19 relief. Last week, House of Representative Committees released their COVID-19 relief package framework. The package includes an estimated total of more than $400 million in direct federal funding to counties, towns, and villages across New York's 19th Congressional District. Rep. Antonio Delgado worked with his colleagues to incorporate this funding formula in the latest House COVID-19 package.

“Local governments need direct COVID-19 relief to continue essential services and get shots in residents' arms,” said Rep. Antonio Delgado. “Since last May, I've been working to secure federal dollars for our rural communities. My funding formula, which is included in the latest House relief proposal, would deliver over $400 million to counties, towns, and villages across NY-19. Today's meetings made it clear -- folks need direct federal funding immediately.”

“Congressman Delgado is a great asset to the rural areas in his district,” said Village of Deposit Mayor Bryan Moore. “I am a Republican and support Mr. Delgado as I truly believe he is bipartisan and party affiliation means nothing. At the end of the day we need to put politics aside and work together. Congressman Delgado understands just how important this is to get some real work done and provide aid to the American people.”

“The little guys, smaller municipalities and rural communities, have been forgotten during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Town of Sanford Supervisor Dewey Decker. “I appreciate Congressman Delgado's work to support Towns like Sanford during this crisis. He listened to our concerns, and I know he will continue to fight for us in Washington.”

“Delaware County needs direct federal COVID-19 relief,” said Board of Supervisors Chair and Town of Bovina Supervisor Tina MolĂ©. “We are doing everything we can on the ground to protect residents and continue essential services, but we need assistance from Congress. Representative Delgado has been fighting for months to get our community funding, and I thank him for his work to secure this critical aid.”
