Over the last five years, the Mountain Eagle, founded in 1982 by Donald Conover, has expanded to a variety of new areas, including Windham, Margaretville, Cairo, and more. Part of the reason for the consistent growth has been a dedication to offering a large amount of news-- local news, not fluff or national stories-- for just $1 per week.
This model has worked well, with the paper adding in a new section each year as readers from around the area turn toward our full color, full-court coverage. Each week, we’re committed to the most possible news from a Schoharie County perspective, with our headquarters in Schoharie and focus on all 16 towns.
Part of the reason we’re launching this new sister section of our newspaper is to fill a widening gap in local news coverage. You’ve seen it. You’ve noticed it, in particular over the last two years.
That is why we’ve collected a number of talented writers to offer the most Schoharie County coverage of any newspaper each and every week, plus another twenty pages (or more) of the surrounding area.
This has worked time and time again as we challenge the powers that be and build up local business and community events. Our team is fresh, experienced, and full of energy.
Please give us a shot, especially as our paper grows and currently is neck and neck for largest circulation of a Schoharie County weekly. We plan on growing with you each and every week.
