The SUNY Cobleskill men’s cross-country team opened their 2021 season in impressive fashion on Saturday, posting a team score of 24 points to better a field of nine teams at the SUNY Poly Short Course Invitational hosted by the Wildcats on their campus course.

Leading the way for Cobleskill was freshman Eamonn Sullivan, Wappingers Falls, N.Y., Fordham Prep., who better the 65-runner field by covering the 6000-meter course in an impressive time of 19:02 to capture a victory in his first career intercollegiate race.

In support of Sullivan’s run, the Fighting Tigers displayed strong pack running as senior Dillon VanDemortel, Newark, N.Y., Newark High School, placed second overall in 19:11.7 freshman Nick Logan, Queensbury, N.Y., Queensbury High School, placed third overall in 19:29.3 and freshman Shane Viscosi, Fultonville, N.Y., Fonda-Fultonville High School, finished fifth overall in 19:56.4.

Senior Jared Craw, Colonie, N.Y., Colonie High School/Hudson Valley Community College, rounded out the team’s scoring in 13th place with a time of 21:02.5.

The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Saturday September 11 when they host their annual Steven A. Warde Invitational beginning at 10:30 a.m.
