The SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Department announced today that Fighting Tiger Associate Athletic Director Mary Irving will served as the Interim Men’s & Women’s Swimming & Diving Coach for the 2021-22 season. This marks Irving’s second go-around at the program’s head coach having served as Cobleskill’s Head Coach from 2003 until 2008.

A native of Rensselaer, N.Y., Irving graduated from Rensselaer Junior/Senior High School in 1983 moving on to Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY where she earned an associate degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences/Physical Education in 1985. While at Hudson Valley, Irving was a member of the women’s basketball and softball programs.

Irving continued her education at SUNY Cortland in Cortland, NY where she earned a bachelor's degree in Physical Education in 1987. She earned her National Athletic Training Association Certification through SUNY Brockport in Brockport, NY in 1990. Irving would later earn her master's degree in Recreation Administration through George Williams College/Aurora University in Aurora, IL in 1998.
During her first stint as head coach, she led the Fighting Tiger men’s team to Mountain Valley Conference (MVC) Titles in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 and the women’s team to the 2004 MVC Championship.

With the season close at hand the “new” Cobleskill coach is excited and optimistic about the upcoming campaign as she takes over the program again.

“It has been several years since I have been on the deck in a coaching capacity.  I do look forward to working with our talented athletes and providing them an opportunity to compete again after a long Covid respite.  Go Fighting Tigers.”

Another former Cobleskill Head Coach will return to the program in an assistant capacity this year as Jan Herrick who has also served as the long-time coach for the Schoharie County Penguins Swim Team will assist Irving this season.
