FIGHTING TIGER SOFTBALL SWEPT BY RPI ENGINEERS IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION

Written By Editor on 4/7/22 | 4/7/22

Troy, N.Y.: The road was a bumpy one for the SUNY Cobleskill softball team on Saturday as the Fighting Tigers were swept by the Engineers of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) by scores of 8-0 and 15-1 in non-conference action. With the losses Cobleskill falls to 2-8 on the season overall while RPI is now 10-10 overall on the year.

In the opener the Fighting Tiger bats could not touch Engineer starter junior Alexis Cooke, Newton, N.J., Kittatinny Regional High School, for any hits and could only manage a pair of walks in the game as the Engineer right hander struck out five in five innings of work.

In the nightcap four Cobleskill errors opened the gates to 11 unearned runs as the Engineers cruised to the victory behind the pitching of junior Brooke Sroczinski, Raynham, Mass., Bishop Feehan High School, who allowed one unearned run on one hit striking our seven and allowing only two walks in five innings of work.

Senior center fielder Jillian Nitchman, Ballston Spa, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, score the lone Fighting Tiger run on the day going 1-for-1 with a double and a walk at the plate.

The Orange & Black will return to action on Tuesday April 5 when they will host the Dutchwomen of Union College for a non-conference doubleheader with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
