20 County Democratic Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs in the 19th District Announce Support for Riley’s Campaign
ITHACA, N.Y. — Today, Democrat Josh Riley announced he is running for Congress in New York’s 19th Congressional District for the 2024 election. Riley ran as the Democratic nominee in this district in 2022 in one of the nation’s closest and most expensive House contests. He earned over 49.2% of the vote in a challenging political environment for New York Democrats.
“Upstate New Yorkers are nothing if not resilient,” said Riley. “When the world faces big challenges, we always rise to meet them. I’m running for Congress because I believe this is a Valley of Opportunity, and we deserve a politics that serves hard-working Upstate New Yorkers, not deep-pocketed special interests. That’s why I’ll always protect Social Security, defend a woman’s right to choose, and fight to strengthen the Middle Class, and it’s why I’ll never take a penny of corporate PAC money.”
In an announcement video shared online, Riley says, “It’s the values and the work ethic I learned growing up here that have guided my career–civil rights work for kids who needed healthcare; bringing Democrats and Republicans together to fight the opioid epidemic; taking on big corporations that were ripping off consumers, workers, small businesses.” You can watch the full video HERE.
As he enters the race for the 19th District, various County Democratic Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs in Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Greene, Sullivan, Tioga, Tompkins, and Ulster Counties have announced their support for Riley’s candidacy.
“As Democratic Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs across New York’s 19th Congressional District, we are excited to support Josh Riley in his campaign for Congress,” said the chairs and vice chairs. “Josh is a fifth-generation Upstate New Yorker with the roots, work ethic, and experience needed to deliver results for this District.
“We also know that Josh is uniquely positioned to win this race. Josh ran an exceptionally strong campaign in 2022, turning out a higher percentage of Democratic voters than any other House campaign in the State while also winning substantial Republican and Independent support. We believe Josh can finish the job in 2024, and we look forward to working with Josh to get it done.”
