The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team took four-of-five games during the week to roar into first place of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Western Division race with an 8-10 overall record including a 3-0 record in NAC action. The Fighting Tigers opened the week on Monday with a non-league 2-0 road loss to the Red Dragons of SUNY Oneonta in Oneonta, N.Y. followed on Tuesday with a 10-4 non-conference road victory over the Pioneers of Utica University in Utica, N.Y. Then over the weekend Cobleskill opened their 2023 NAC season by sweeping a series versus league rival the Wildcats of the SUNY Polytechnic defeating the visitors on Friday 5-2 before winning a doubleheader on Saturday by scores of 13-0 and 6-4. Junior utility player Matthew Snyder, Latham, N.Y., Shaker High School, batted .412 on the week going 7-for-17 with two triples, three stolen based, four runs scored at six RBI.
The Fighting Tiger men’s lacrosse team took to the road on Saturday to post a 21-4 victory over the Cyclones of Centenary University in Hackettstown, N.J. in non-league action to improve to 5-2 overall on the season. Cobleskill was led by junior midfielder Sean D’Amaro, Northport, N.Y., Northport High School, who scored four goals and passed out four assists on the day.
Sophomore multi-event athlete Lilah Ward, Arlington, Vt. Arlington High School, was the Fighting Tiger women’s outdoor track & field teams’ top finisher at the 2023 Cortland Red Dragon Open Invitational hosted by SUNY Cortland in Cortland, N.Y. on Saturday. Ward placed third overall in the High Jump against the field by clearing a height of 1.55 meters.
First-year jumper/sprinter Jeremy Rosario, Colonie, N.Y., Colonie High School, was the Fighting Tiger men’s outdoor track & field teams’ top finisher at the 2023 Cortland Red Dragon Invitational hosted by SUNY Cortland, in Cortland, N.Y. on Saturday. Rosario won the High Jump by clearing a height of 1.78 meters.
The Fighting Tiger softball team dropped four-of-five contests during the week splitting a non-league at home on Tuesday with the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College dropping the first game by a score of 4-6 then taking the second game by a 7-1 margin. Cobleskill then opened the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) season by dropping three conference road contests versus the Wildcats of the SUNY Polytechnic Institute over the weekend in games played at Utica College’s Greenman Field to fall to 3-14 overall with a 0-3 record in NAC action. Sophomore catcher Mackenzie Wendelken, Stuyvesant, N.Y., Ichabod Crane, led the team offensively batting .444 by going 8-for-18 with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBI on the week.
