SUNY COBLESKILL MEN’S LAX SWATS NVU-LYNDON HORNETS 21-5 IN NAC ACTION

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men’s lacrosse team continued their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) homestand on Sunday in impressive fashion downing the visiting Hornets of Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Sunday by a 21-5 margin at the Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. With the victory the Fighting Tigers move to 7-3 overall and even the NAC record at 2-2 while the Hornets drop to 1-4 overall including 1-4 conference record. 

The victory guarantees the Fighting Tigers their first winning season along with a new program mark for the most wins in a single season since the program’s move to the NCAA level of competition in 2008. This will also be the team’s first winning season since 2008 while they were still competing at the NJCAA level. 

On the afternoon Cobleskill dominated the on-field action throughout the contest outshooting the Hornets by a 73-to-24 margin while winning the battle by a 58-to-33 tally. 

Spearheading the Fighting Tiger attack was the tandem of senior attackman William Bockhaus, Southampton, N.Y., Southampton High School, who scored four goals, passed out six assists, picked up eight ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers on the afternoon and senior midfielder Jake Giess, Victor, N.Y., Victor High School/Finger Lakes Community College, who scored four goals to go with seven ground balls on the day.  

The Orange & Black also received strong efforts from junior midfielder Sean D’Amaro, Northport, N.Y., Northport High School, who had three goals, an assist and five ground balls, junior attackman Gregory, Neumann, Accord, N.Y., Rondout Valley High School, with three goals, two assists and five ground balls, senior attackman Kerry Blackwood, Johnstown, N.Y., Johnstown High School/Hudson Valley Community College, with three goals, an assist and four ground balls and junior midfielder Sean McMahan, Clifton Park, N.Y., Shenendehowa High School, who scored two goals, passed out two assists and picked up four ground balls. 

Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper John Williams, Smyrna, Del., Smyrna High School, recorded 11 saves and caused a turnover in the win while senior defender Nathan Skellie, Phelps, N.Y., Midlakes High School/Finger Lakes Community College, picked up five ground balls, caused a pair of turnovers to go with his first goal of the season with sophomore defender Tyler Jaffee, Plattekill, N.Y., Wallkill High School, picked up two ground balls, caused a turnover and scored his first goal of the season.   

Cobleskill will return to NAC action Wednesday April 19 when they meet the Trailblazers of the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) at the Soccer/Lacrosse Complex with face-off slated for 4:00 p.m.
