SUNY COBLESKILL WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD COMPETES AT 2023 CORTLAND UPSTATE ALTERNATIVE INVITATIONAL


Cortland, N.Y. The SUNY Cobleskill women’s outdoor track & field team returned to action on Saturday to compete at the 2023 Cortland Upstate Alternative Invitational hosted by the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. The Fighting Tigers posted some of their best finishes of the season at the non-scoring qualifying event. 

Sophomore multi-event athlete Lilah Ward, Arlington, Vt., Arlington High School, turned in an impressive showing at the meet placing second in the 100-Meter Dash in a time of 13.04 seconds, fourth in the 200 meter dash in a time of 27.29 seconds and fifth in the High Jump by clearing a height of 4’11” to finish fifth overall while first-year multi-event athlete Lilly Swyers, Peru, N.Y., Peru High School, finished fourth overall in the Triple Jump with a mark of 33’9 ¼” to go with a fifth place finish  in the 100-Meter Hurdles in 17.16 seconds. 

Cobleskill also received solid efforts from first-year multi-event athlete Jessica Carney, Hopkinton, N.H., Hopkinton High School, who placed third overall in the Javelin with a mark of 94’7”and from first-year jumper Shealinn Stevens, Otego, N.Y., Unatego High School, with a seventh place finish in the Long Jump with a mark of 16’3”.  

On the track sophomore mid-distance runner Jenna Swyers, Peru, N.Y., Peru High School, turned in a strong effort placing seventh in the 1500-meter run in a time of 5:46.17. 

The Orange & Black will next be in action on over the weekend when they return to Cortland, N.Y. for the 2023 Cortland Classic hosted by SUNY Cortland at the college’s SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex on Friday April 21 and Saturday April 22.
