Traditionally Speaking…by Pat Larsen

Attributes of the Wise Ones

You’d immediately know when you’ve crossed paths with a wise one. There’s a calmness, an inviting air about them that speaks to our inner child. We exhibit a life long need to be within the embrace of the wise ones.

Perhaps you recognize their loving nature at first. Their warmth is palpable alongside a generosity that draws you in. Sometimes, it's the twinkle in their eyes that speaks volumes to the gentleness in their hearts.

I’ve crossed paths with many a wise person. Whether male or female, it is they who possess a strength of character that is fascinating to be near. They often have a special talent that simply draws you in at first and then you realize that they are always offering us something more. Every action is an opportunity and the lesson is always exactly what was needed at just the right moment.

Perhaps as you read this, you are conjuring up a vision of who you’d describe as a wise one that you’ve crossed paths with.

Is it a grandmotherly figure or an elder in your neighborhood that you’d consider to be a wise person?

Maybe a preacher at church?

But have you ever also considered that the wise ones might also come in a pint sized package in the form of a child? Hmm. There’s something to think long and hard about.

As we grow older, we think we have learned all there is to learn and the new generations are just catching up or are redoing everything that we tried to make sense of in our world. Not so. Wisdom IS many things and it is mostly the courage to acquire through observation, curiosity and then a desire to share in a profound way so as to help create a better world for all of us to live in the present. Wise ones know that we are always acquiring more & more wisdom as we age.

I trust that this small illustration will open your hearts to seeing all that the wise ones are here to give us.

They do not ask much of their disciples or anything at all, in truth. A bit of simple acknowledgment and then a passing on of the baton of wisdom is a generous way to say thank you.

At this time of reflection and celebration you will come across many wise ones. Keep your heart open to the possibilities to have an encounter.

You’ll be delighted how this slight shift will create an atmosphere within that will fill you up with joy.

JOY to YOUR WORLD today and always.
