PRATTSVILLE - Edge-of-your-seat surprises await during the “Comedy Burlesque Show,” January 27, 7 p.m., at the Prattsville Art Center.
Standup comic Andrew Steiner is the headliner accompanied by comedic partner and his real-life wife Francesca Manglione, the host of the show and a burlesquer (if there is such a word and even if there isn’t).
The evening of entertainment is being produced by Marisa Caruso, an actress and comedienne in her own right, from the town of Stamford.
“This area has an appetite for comedy and the Prattsville Art Center is a good venue, well known for presenting eclectic events,” says Caruso, noting this is the second in what is hopefully a continuing series.
“We did our first show in November,” Caruso says. “It was fantastic. We were oversold. We had to turn people away.”
Caruso has also put together the Hills People’s Comedy Fest in nearby Delaware County, highlighting Steiner and Manglione.
“Andrew reached out to me to perform here,’ Caruso says. “He is preparing for his first hour-long comedy special.
“This will be an exciting sneak-peek into his act as he rehearses for that special. He will want to feel confident and warm the audience.”
Steiner is an “internationally touring comedian who won best comedy show at Pittsburgh Fringe in 2019,” the Arts Center promotional material states.
“With his blend of surrealist storytelling, improvised music, poetry, guided meditation and dance, Steiner tells the story of his labyrinthine journey to stand-up comedy.”
Steiner distinctively offers “one man's unorthodox spiritual journey. "How to Meditate" explores the nature of happiness, self-identity, and true love through a series of unconventional and hilarious stories, guided meditation, and burlesque performance.
“Andrew has performed all over the world including Glasgow Comedy Festival, Iceland, Tokyo Comedy Bar, and sold-out shows at Rochester and Philly Fringe.”
Maglione is a Brooklyn-based comedian, flow artist, and burlesque dancer performing across the U.S and beyond.
“I’m not entirely sure what Francesca’s act consists of but I hear there might be light tricks, props and an LED hula hoop.” Caruso says.
Given its burlesque overtones, Maglione’s performance may also contain some slightly risque jokes. “We’ll have to wait and see,” Caruso says.
“Prattsville Art Center is a funky, fun accessible space. It is cozy inside with heat from the pellet stove so come join us,” Caruso says.
Tickets for “The Comedy Burlesque Show,” suitable for ages 18 and over, are $7 in advance and $10 at the door.
