Anthony “Tony” A. Preston, of Middleburgh, passed away peacefully at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, January 12, 2024
Tony was born 69 years ago on December 27, 1954 in Cobleskill and served his country in the United States Army from 1973 until his Honorable Discharge in 1979. Tony’s passions in life were farming and being with his animals. He also loved being an auctioneer, meeting and talking with people and stuff. He loved searching through flea markets and auctions for treasures and also camping, and stuff. He also enjoyed hanging with his best friend and “brother,” Daniel Blyth, a good challenge on the basketball court and was loved by generations of children, earning the nicknames “uncle” and “grandpa.” Tony’s heart was as kind and thoughtful as his voice and laughter were raspy, and he was often the first to lend a hand to anyone in need. His signature saying, to finish most comments was “and stuff,” fitting, because if you knew Tony, you knew he loved his stuff!
Tony will be loved forever by his companion and soulmate of 33 years: Terry Bevins; step-daughter: Amanda (Bob) McGee; step-sons: George Bevins, III, Christopher Bevins, John “John John” Ilowiecki; his mother: Delores Larochelle; siblings: Scott (Faith) Preston, Ricky (Kimmi) Preston, Kim (Rodney) Vass. Joe (Kim) Larochelle, Adam Larochelle; grandchildren: Maggie (Cesar) Kenney, Dyllan Bevins, Madilyn Bevins, Alvira Bevins, Gunner Bevins; many nieces, nephews and great friends.
Spring interment, with Military Honors, will be in the Middleburgh cemetery and a celebration of Tony’s life is being planned for nicer weather, with details being announced when finalized.
Tony’s family requests memorial donations in his honor be sent to the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley, PO Box 40, Howes Cave, NY 12092
