Town of Wright (Schoharie County): Rosemary Christoff-Dolan 78, of Cook Road, Town of Wright, NY passed away Sunday, January 7th at the Albany Medical Center after a decline in health.
Rosemary was born October 25, 1945 in Rochester, NY, a daughter of immigrants; Steven L. and Marie (Popova) Christoff. After graduating high school, she attended Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, Hunter College and NYU in NYC where she received her Masters’ degree. She worked at various jobs until moving to Schoharie county in the 1980’s and marrying Matthew Dolan. She worked for the Office of Developmental Disabilities, the Office of Mental Health, Capital District Psychiatric Center and lastly for Albany County Office of the Aging. Rosemary also did a great deal of volunteer work for the Town of Wright/Schoharie Lions Club serving as President in 1994 and 2000 where she also served as District Chair and Chairperson for Dogs for the Handicapped. Her work also included volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. She purchased the D.W. Jenkins house in Central Bridge in 1986, researching the history behind the home and eventually succeeded in registering it as an historic site. Rosemary also took an interest in the Central Bridge area and added the Central Bridge Civic Association to her memberships that she belonged to.
In her spare time, she enjoyed photography, taking that special shot of family, friends, and community events. Rosemary was a known writer and contributor to various papers both locally and regionally along with the book; Tangled Roots. She also enjoyed ballroom dancing and giving generously to many charities.
Rosemary was predeceased by her parents, her brothers; Jerry, Carl, Walter, and William and her husband, Matthew M. Dolan in 1990. Survivors include cousins, step-children, and friends.
Calling hours and a period of visitation will be held in April or May with burial following in the Old Stone Fort Cemetery in Schoharie.
