ALBANY – Sheriff Craig DuMond of Delaware County has been elected as the President of the New York State Sheriffs' Association. This prestigious role is a testament to Sheriff DuMond's exemplary service and dedication to law enforcement and community service.
In attendance at the swearing in ceremony were Tina Molé, Chairman of the Delaware County Board of Supervisors, the Honorable Judge John L. Hubbard of Delaware County, Undersheriff Kim Smith, the Delaware County Sheriffs’ Office Colorguard, and many other Deputies, Corrections Officers, Investigators and staff of the Delaware County Sheriffs’ Office. Judge John L. Hubbard performed the swearing in for President DuMond and the entire Executive Committee of the New York State Sheriffs’ Association. Also in attendance were the Sheriffs’ wife Karleen and three of his four sons, Christopher, Nathan and Alan . His son Brandon was unable to attend as he is currently deployed in Japan with the United States Army.
In addition, the Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of New York, was on hand at the ceremony to introduce Sheriff DuMond and assist with the swearing in.
Sheriff DuMond has served with distinction in Delaware County, earning respect and admiration for his commitment to public safety, innovative policing strategies, and community engagement. His election as President of the Association underscores his leadership qualities and his vision for advancing law enforcement across New York State.
In his new role, Sheriff DuMond will lead the Association in its mission to promote and enhance the quality of law enforcement and public safety services across the state. He will work closely with sheriffs from 58 counties, fostering collaboration, sharing best practices, and advocating for policies that support the vital work of law enforcement.
Sheriff DuMond expressed his gratitude for the confidence placed in him by his peers and emphasized his commitment to upholding the values of the Association. "I am deeply honored to serve as President of the New York State Sheriffs' Association. Together, we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all New Yorkers and uphold the highest standards of law enforcement," said Sheriff DuMond.
Chairman Molé said, “I am extremely proud that Sheriff DuMond has been chosen for this prestigious statewide position. However, this doesn't come as a surprise to me, as in my many years of service, I have seldom encountered a public servant as professional and dedicated as he is. I am confident that he will lead the New York State Sheriffs' Association with the same passion, professionalism, and dedication that he has consistently shown in leading the Delaware County Sheriff's Office.”
The New York State Sheriffs' Association, with a history dating back to 1934, plays a critical role in shaping the landscape of law enforcement in the state. Under Sheriff DuMond's leadership, the Association is poised to continue its vital work in supporting sheriffs and their offices, advocating for public safety initiatives, and contributing to the welfare of the communities they serve.
