Supers Re-Elect Federice, Vroman to Lead County

Staff Report

SCHOHARIE - For the fifth consecutive year, the Schoharie County Board of Supervisors only needed one round of balloting to re-elect Conesville Supervisor Bill Federice to serve as its Chairman without opposition.

Mr. Federice, who was first elected to the top job in January 2020, received the support of all Republican Supervisors present; he was also backed by Wright Supervisor Alex Luniewski, an Independent. Summit Supervisor Harold Vroman was also re-elected as Vice-Chairman of the board unopposed.

Supervisor Phillip Skowfoe of Fulton and Sandra Manko of Sharon, the only elected Democrats on the board, made no nominations for either position, which essentially amounts to a "present" vote.

It should also be noted that Gilboa Supervisor Alicia Terry, a Conservative who defeated a GOP attempt to oust her last November, withheld her vote of support for either Mr. Federice or Mr. Vroman. Additionally, Richmondville Supervisor Jeffrey Haslun made no nomination for Vice-Chairman.

"Congratulations I think - or condolences - one or the other," quipped County Attorney Michael West upon Mr. Federice's re-election. For his part, he stated  "Thank you one and all. I will work with everybody."

With the exception of new Middleburgh Supervisor John Youmans, who was elected without opposition to replace retiring Supervisor Wes Laraway, the U-shaped meeting table in the supervisors chambers was surrounded by familiar faces. Fifteen of sixteen incumbents from last year remained.
