Traditionally Speaking…by Pat Larsen

Within Winter's Stillness

There's a very compelling silence evident within the days and nights of winter's presence. Without even leaving your home, you can feel the exchange of  soothing energy between the  gentle beating of your own heart and the quiet that emanates from the trees and the frozen ground all around.

We connect in a totally different way than any other season.

On the other side of the windows closed tight to keep out the cold, the  doors that block that wind and the curtains drawn to hold our heat within its walls is a world that can be missed if we let it.

Sit for a moment bundled up perhaps, close enough to listen and not catch your death while doing so. You’ll hear it and feel the stillness that winter's gifts bring. It shifts the frenetic energy left over from the other seasons to a steady easy rhythm that is healing and calming and special if you allow it to be.

This  stillness might allow for a creative spark within to ignite and  find a space to perhaps begin capturing your thoughts in a journal or to take a pencil to a sketch pad to allow those images to come to life in a drawing.

The possibilities are endless when you embrace the tranquility of this first season of the year.

So. Perhaps, instead of taking the chance of missing the beauty of these quiet moments, while in anticipation of the  first glimpse of the croquis in spring peeking through the snow, interrupt those thoughts with a deep cleansing breath of silent blessings that winter brings us and celebrate the stillness within.
