Annual Election Results In April

By Mary A. Crisafulli

ARKVILLE - Catskill Watershed Corporation has an open nomination to the Board of Directors following the resignation of former Harpersfield Supervisor Jim Eisel in December.

Eisel resigned from the position due to health concerns which also caused his resignation as town supervisor effective February 2023.

CWC board members elected to hold the special election to fill Eisel's term - which ends in 2026 - until after the current election to avoid confusion, said CWC Executive Director Jason Merwin. The annual election is expected to conclude in April.

The 15 CWC board members are elected to sit on the board by Supervisors of the 39 New York City Watershed towns. Nomination forms to fill Eisel's term are expected to be sent out after the annual election results are presented. Elected officials are proportional to population in the watershed, meaning six representatives must be from Delaware County, two from both Ulster and Greene counties, and one from both Sullivan and Schoharie Counties. The nomination to fill Eisel's seat will have to come from Delaware County.

Eisel also served as the CWC board treasurer. Colchester Supervisor Arthur Merrill was appointed as treasurer following Eisel's resignation.

Terms expiring in the 2024 election include CWC President and Bovina Supervisor Tina Molé, Walton Supervisor Joseph Cetta, Windham Supervisor Thomas Hoyt, and Delhi Supervisor Mark Tuthill.

Tuthill lost his reelection campaign as Delhi Supervisor to Maya Boukai. Tuthill ended his last term as supervisor in December. A new nomination to fill this seat will be elected in April.

Results are expected to be announced at the CWC annual meeting on April 2 at 1 p.m.
