GALLUPVILLE — The Gallupville Fire Department hosted its annual easter egg hunt on Saturday, March 23rd, drawing good crowds despite the weather. Families braved the morning wintry mix to enjoy a French toast breakfast with eggs, sausage, potatoes, coffee, and juice, all prepared and served by the volunteers of the Gallupville Fire Department. “We served approximately 70 meals, with about half of them being children’s servings. Normally, only about a quarter would be children’s servings,” said Gallupville Fire Department president Jerry Snyder. “We were very happy with the turnout considering the weather and plan on hosting the event again next year.” The draw for families with children may have been the promise of an encounter with the Easter Bunny, who arrived to pose for photos and hand out candy. After breakfast, families walked across the parking lot to the main firehouse for an Easter Egg hunt. “I think we had just about 20 children participating in the Easter egg hunt. We hid over 260 eggs in the apparatus bay,” said Snyder. There were eggs attached to balloons for the youngest of egg hunters, eggs hidden in open compartments of firetrucks, along running boards and boots, and one golden egg for a special prize. For some, it may have been the only activity of the day, as one event after another began to cancel due to the late March snowstorm. The next breakfast from the Gallupville Fire Department will be on Saturday, April 20th
