MIDDLEBURGH - Five long-time teachers and teacher aides will be retiring from Middleburgh at the end of the school year.

Though the schools will be losing experience, the retirement comes in time to reduce expenditures for the upcoming 2024-25 school budget. Teachers and non-teachers had to give their retirement notices by March 1.

Retiring are:

* Teaching assistant Patricia Cooper.

* Teaching assistant Elaine Loucks.

* Secondary school Spanish teacher Lisa Himme.

* Elementary school teacher Christina Snyder.

* Teacher aide Teri Lawton.

School board members last Wednesday accepted the retirement resignations with regret and best wishes. The retirement of Ms. Loucks is effective on June 25. all the rest are at the end of the school year on June 30.

In other personnel moves, board members:

* Named JoAnn Norton as a support staff substitute effective March 13.

* Appointed the following extracurricular coordinators: Justin Hamm, Aron Lawyer, Christine Lucas, Nicole Dunn, and Katelynne Schuttig for the Little Knights intramurals for the rest of the school year.

* Accepted the resignation of Terri Cronin, teacher aide, as of March 15 with regret and best wishes.

* Appointed John Pinder to a four-year probationary position as a secondary school Spanish teacher starting on September 1. Should he not receive the required certification by that time, Mr. Pinder will be re-appointed as a long-term substitute.

 * Named Rachel May as a mentor for Mr. PInder for the 2024-25 school year.

* Named Morgan Schafroth as a long-term volunteer for athletics under Karen Schaffer for the rest of the school year.
