MARGARETVILLE – On Sunday at the picturesque Hanah Mountain Resort, the Delaware County Republican Committee, under the chairmanship of Katie Taggart, celebrated its annual recognition of outstanding service and dedication. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Republican of the Year Award to a distinguished member, Beverly J. Shields.
For over three decades, Beverly Shields has served Delaware County with an unwavering commitment to family, friends, faith, and the Republican Party. Born on June 1, 1951, Beverly is a lifelong resident of Delaware County, epitomizing the spirit of public service and community values that the Republican Party holds dear.
A graduate of Downsville Central School and Thomas Edison College, Beverly’s career has spanned various roles that highlight her versatility and dedication. From driving school buses to managing the billing department at Foote and Burlingame, Beverly has consistently demonstrated leadership and commitment. For the last 30 years, she has served with distinction as the County Treasurer, and for ten of those years, also led the Delaware County IT department.
Beverly’s community service includes significant roles such as church board member, Sunday School teacher, and treasurer at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Downsville, where she has been a member for 50 years. Her work with the Downsville Friends and Neighbors 4-H and as a foster parent are testaments to her compassion and commitment to nurturing future generations.
Her political journey is equally storied, with Beverly being a foundational figure in local Republican circles, having served on the Colchester Republican Club for 34 years and the county committee for 32 years. She has also played significant roles as a state committee woman and on the county executive committee, further shaping the landscape of local governance and community engagement.
The Delaware County Republican Committee is proud to recognize Beverly J. Shields as the Republican of the Year for her extraordinary contributions to the community and the party. Her lifelong dedication is an inspiration to all and sets a high standard for community and public service.
