Sentencing in Sidney Drug Case

DELHI –District Attorney Shawn J. Smith announced today that Justin T. Baker, 36, of Sidney, New York, was sentenced to 2 and ½ years in prison and one year of post-release supervision on April 22, 2024.

The defendant had previously been convicted of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree, possession with intent to sell, after having admitted to possessing methamphetamine in the Village of Sidney on September 11, 2023. 

On April 22, 2024, the defendant appeared in Delaware County Court and the Honorable John L. Hubbard sentenced the defendant to two- and one-half years in state prison, to be followed by one year of post release supervision.  The defendant was also ordered to provide a sample of his DNA for inclusion in the New York State DNA databank and to pay fines and surcharges.  At the conclusion of the proceeding, the defendant was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to begin serving his sentence. 

District Attorney Shawn Smith commended the Sidney Police Department for their thorough investigation of this case. Smith stated, “Drugs continue to be an issue within Delaware County, but we will continue to work with law enforcement to ensure that every one of these offenders have been held accountable.”
