PRATTSVILLE - Guess Mother Nature is undecided whether it is time for Spring or maybe a few days of winter yet to be endured.
When there is a nice spring day, we can take a trip to Conesville and visit the newly opened Conesville Everything Shoppe, located in Conesville on Route 990V, across from the Conesville Fire Hall. The Shoppe opened on April 23 and will be open weekly every Tuesday – Saturday, 10 AM – 3 PM. You can call 607-588-4000 for more information. Donations are welcome during OPEN hours. Clean used or new clothing, shoes, bedding, kitchenware, pocketbooks, hats, jackets, sweaters, suits. Ask clerk for list of non-acceptable items. The volunteers have been very busy for weeks getting this ready for our enjoyment. All proceeds go to help the seniors. The shops are operated by The Gathering Place for Seniors 50+ Community Center. Good luck. Also the Conesville Deli is located nearby with fantastic foods to be enjoyed so you can renew your strength for continued browsing and buying.
All businesses are open now at The Prattsville Plaza. A water leak kept some of them who rely on water for their businesses to take some time off. It didn’t take long for all the regular customers of these businesses to get the word that they had reopened and to patronize their favorite haunts. Good luck to all, and thanks to your faithful customers to line up to use your facilities again. Too bad the Wellness Center in Tannersville closed. You could just about get anything there from OTC medicines to gifts for all occasions. We do need neighborhood small businesses. Although not that small, Jim’s Great American fits the category of hometown business. You get to see the likes of Gail Peckham, she says she is too old to run and hide from yours truly, Stephanie Braswell is just the opposite – always on fast speed with the passing farewell of “got to go”….do another job.
Laurel and Jim spent a long weekend in the Lancaster, Pennsylvania area. They attended an event known as a Mud Sale/Auction. Multiple tents were sent up to display items for sales and for the mud auctions. The beautiful handmade quilts were on display and for sale in the firehouse. Laurel said they were beautiful, and very costly. The couple enjoyed dining out in style while there and we say, “good for them both”. It is always good to get away from daily routine and just relax. They will relax after they plant the three new bushes Jim bought Laurel. Way to go Jim. Many more such weekends friends. They have also been visited by Mama Bear and two cubs in their back yard. See picture.
The Bakers (Debbie and Steve) are thanked for hosting the Greene County American Legion Auxiliary meeting recently. Debbie does such a great job of being the hostess for the Auxiliary. You know the community feeling is alive and well when the local Auxiliary members and Debbie spend as much time after the meeting getting caught up on family and neighborly news as time spent at the meeting. Debbie you are special. After all of that Debbie was getting ready to make a trip down state to spend April 4 with her mother for Mary’s birthday. Then the Baker parents waved “Have a great trip” wishes to daughters Stephanie and Samantha for their trip to Ireland. In the meantime back at the homestead, Steve and Debbie are awaiting the birth of their fourth grandchild, thanks to son Joe and Leisa. Mia will be the older sister of the new little girl and cousins Sophia and Scarlet (daughters of John and Sheila) will show all their younger cousins how to play the game with Grandparents Steve and Debbie. Love those Bakers.
Neighborly thanks go out to Steve Ramundo for helping some elderly folk solve a lawn tractor problem. Thanks also to his wife Kathy for sharing some patriotic material. On inspecting the material, it was declared “perfect” for all number of Americanism themed items for our veterans. Thank you to both Steve and Kathy.
The Gurleys were blessed with another great grandchild, Number 10. The baby girl is the daughter of Cody and Samantha Hodge and granddaughter of Rick and Nancy Gurley Hodge, their first grandchild so everyone is happy for all. The little girl, weighted in at 8 lbs. 13 oz., and measured 19.5 inches long. She was born on 12:01 AM April 22. Her name is Quinn and she will be spoiled by all until No.11 arrives in December, thanks to another cousin. Is there no end to this?
Still waiting for Arnold and Diana to join the great-grandparent club. Granddaughter Ashleigh and husband Jeremy are awaiting the birth of the new generation of Jaegers – a daughter and we wish them all the best.
The “masked intruder” has visited the Brainards without incidents. The bird feeders have been retired for the season and the feral cat makes sure his dinners are consumed before nightfall. Yes, “the cat” visits two or three houses every night before darkness and gets the largest share of the offerings. If a face-off between the cat and the raccoon, my money is on the cat.
Happy Birthday to Reverend Elliott Oakes and Dana Hommel on April 27. Happy Birthday to “BJ” Murray on April 30.
