HAINES FALLS — On the evening of August 10, a swift and coordinated rescue operation by New York State Forest Rangers successfully saved a 23-year-old Brooklyn man who became stranded at Fawn’s Leap due to heavy rainfall and rapidly rising water levels.

At approximately 7 p.m., Forest Ranger Gullen received an urgent call regarding the trapped individual. The man found himself on the wrong side of Fawn’s Leap, a popular but dangerous spot in Kaaterskill Clove, where recent downpours had made crossing the creek dangerous.

Responding swiftly, Rangers Fox, Horn, Kreft, and Peterson joined Ranger Gullen at the scene. Given the treacherous conditions, the Rangers devised a rope system to safely extract the man from his precarious position. The team’s expertise and teamwork were crucial in executing the rescue under challenging circumstances.

Once the individual was successfully raised from his location, the Rangers waded with him across the swollen Kaaterskill Creek, ensuring his safe return to solid ground. The entire operation was efficiently managed, with local police and emergency services assisting as needed. By 9:10 p.m., all resources were cleared, and the situation was resolved without injury.

Fawn’s Leap, known for its stunning beauty and swimming spots, also poses significant risks, especially after heavy rainfall. This rescue serves as a reminder of the importance of caution when exploring the area’s natural wonders.

Thanks to the dedication and skill of the New York State Forest Rangers, a potentially tragic situation was averted, highlighting their vital role in ensuring the safety of visitors to the region.
