PRATTSVILLE – At this busy time of the year with visitors and travelers, we want to thank our law enforcement community for watching our for us and for visitors also. Please be safe. We also send our appreciation to our early responders, fire fighters and all those who give us aid and comfort in our times of need. Thank you to all.
Music on the Green took place in Prattsville on Saturday evening to the enjoyment of all. Quite a crowd was there to enjoy the music and to support our Community Group. Lots of Prattsville residents attended as well as some unfamiliar faces. One local said he came to pick up some items at Jim’s Great American and heard the music and came over to enjoy all the activities and exchange greeting with acquaintances from long ago. There were two food centers giving you a choice of food types, with sides and drinks. A variety of cookies were free to top off your eats. The 50-50 raffle netted the winner $81. The children were very involved with their games and were well behaved. Thank you Matt and Melissa Peters for your hard work and dedication to our hometown. You are appreciated. The next evening of entertainment will take place on the first weekend of October. Will get a definite date to you later but do know it will feature a five-piece ensemble for your musical enjoyment. If it hadn’t been so chilly, soft ice cream would have been a nice touch. But the young crowd seemed to be enjoying it lower temperatures or not.
From our Oregon Girls: “We’ve been having some “hot” days. Thankfully it’s much more comfortable this week in the 70’s. You can send us some of your rain. Everything is very dry and Oregon has 81 fires, some still not under control. We’ve ok here but if the wind is just right we do get some smoke. I spoke with Ed and Pat [Chatfield]last week and they told us about the horrible rain you folks had. Guess it was the tail end of Debby. We sure don’t have much control over fire or water. Janet waters daily and her garden has been doing nicely. She has so much veggies I get to take some to the seniors at our local senior center in town. The tomatoes are starting to ripen so it won’t be long before we have extra’s to share. [As members of American Legion Auxiliary Virgil E. Deyo Unit 1327] We donated 12 large garbage bags to the VA last week. Two bags of household items @ $40.00 each = $ 80.00. Ten large bags of clothes $ $25.00 each = $ 250.00. Total amount: $330.00. They are always very happy to receive used items. Janet just got back from a short visit to Washington State to visit her old boss, Donna. GiGi and I held down the fort while she was away. One morning we got up late so we enjoyed ice cream for brunch. We didn’t have any wild parties, and the neighbors promised not to tell!! Hope everyone enjoys the summer. It seems to be shorter each year. Greetings from the Oregon Gals Judy Janet and GiGi”
Now from our local Baker Girls: They were out in force to enjoy the Music on the Green. Stephanie Baker was there with Karissa (Joe), Sheila (John) and Joe and Karissa’s daughters Mia and Grace, John and Sheila’s daughter Scarlett. Mom Debbie and Dad Steve were at home entertaining their guests. Mia was having the time of her life, eating all those things that are discouraged at home and wide eyed with curiosity. Scarlett’s older sister Sophia was at a sleepover. Steve and Debbie’s daughter Samantha and friend were there on Sunday along with other various family members including Dennis and Mary Barry Baker. Think most of the guests will be there until Wednesday. What a wonderful family.
Heard the Arnold and Diana Jaeger family recently spent a family vacation at one of the Atlantic beaches. Quite a number attended because there are now four generations of this family to gather for the holidays and special days. Think Arnold might be the oldest and great granddaughter Charlie Jo is the youngest. Enjoy all your special times.
Claudia Bracaliello has caught up with fisherman par excellence husband Ray. The difference is Claudia releases her catch back in the water. Not sure who the chef is but she said they made Fish Stew and it was pretty good.
American Legion Auxiliary Virgil E. Deyo Unit 1327 members Marianne Krauss, Cathy Martino and Ginny Gurley took a truckload of donated new clothing items and food items to “Dom”,Voluntary Services, at Stratton VAMC, Albany and a box of clothing to the Guardian House in Ballston Spa. Veterans in need are welcome to go to the Albany VA for their various needs. Steve and Lisa Birnbaum dropped off two LARGE bags of snack candies for the next trip to the VA. Thank you. Guardian House helps women in need, both veterans and community members, and the adjacent housing for women with dependent children on that site is nearing completion. The Greene County Veterans Agency is there to help our local veterans AND their families. If you have any questions about eligibility for yourself or a family member, call 518-943-3703. Transportation to appointments is also provided.
Congratulations to Suzette Donisan on her recent retirement. She does indeed deserve the much earned retirement. Enjoy your time with family, Suzette, especially those two grandchildren. They are your rewards.
Heard Billy and Susie Sutton enjoyed the Music on the Green from their car. Susan said she was not “dressed” in street attire. Enough said.
Get well wishes go out to Joanne Dunphy. With some TLC, she will soon be back to her active self. Continued get well wishes are sent to Randy Brainerd. Prayers to all.
The Brainerd Family Reunion Part II took place on Saturday, the 17th, at the Conine Field, Prattsville. Seems the first part of the reunion could not be attended by some, and those attending would enjoy a repeat, so another get together was arranged and was well attended. The day was also noted for being Hunter Brainerd’s birthday – Happy Birthday Hunter.
Have lots of irises in various colors ready for transplanting. Now is the time to do so. They have been cut back and are waiting their week in the sun with their rhizomes exposed. Tisk, tisk. Cannot guarantee the colors but they are tall and beautiful in bloom.
Happy Birthday to Steven Haight, Jeremy Marsh and John Maynard on August 26. On August 28 we wish Cortney Brainerd Happy Birthday. Paul Brody is wished Happy Birthday on August 30. We send Happy Anniversary wishes to Diana and Arnold Jaeger on August 26.
