MIDDLEBURGH - Big improvements could be coming to Badgely Park in Middleburgh.
Trustee Amanda Fernandez updated fellow village board members Monday night on the plans for the park near the former Middleburgh town hall on Railroad Avenue.
While officials are seeking grants for more improvements, the village is waiting for Rotary members to install horseshoe pits in the park. Streets Superintendent Cole Keyser has staked out the area. They will be on the grassy portion of the art park, Trustee Fernandez said. Bill Morton was also consulted about the placement.
Village officials will be applying for a T-Mobile grant by the end of the month to fund more improvement.
If funding is approved, the village could use the money to break ground and reuse that space for something else such as pickleball or basketball courts, though nothing is solid yet, Trustee Fernandez added.
Without a grant the improvements are "cost prohibitive," she noted.
If there is enough money left, some picnic tables and some trees could be added in the future.

In other action, board members:
* Heard Middleburgh Fire Department Chief Darwyn Gregory said the department answered 16 alarms in August.
* Heard Chief Gregory say that inspections and physicals are done and that a significant amount of hose failed.
* Went into executive session to discuss ongoing litigation with the advice of the village attorney.
