SCHOHARIE – Have you ever wondered what it would be like to combine dance styles from around the world? Find out with the World Fusion Dance program this Saturday, September 14, 11am at the Schoharie Library. Anna Mayta of Mayta Fusion Dance will give a presentation about some of the world cultural dance styles, including African, Flamenco, Classical Indian, Modern, Chilean and Latin/Caribbean dances. She will facilitate a conversation about the similarities and differences of each style, bringing an awareness of how dance connects us all as one.

This free program includes an interactive dance portion with audience participation, followed by a performance of Ms. Mayta’s unique world fusion dance. This is a first for Schoharie, and possibly for the whole county!

World Fusion Dance is part of the “Adventures in the Arts: Building Community, Creativity, and Joy” series at the Schoharie Library. The series started with Cajun music and dance featuring The Rubber Band and dance instructor Ron Bruschi in June, and continues with watercolor classes with Irina Malisova starting September 28 at 10:30am; an evening of contemporary folk music with acclaimed duo Ash & Eric on Friday, October 11, 6:30pm; “Create a Fantasy Creature” with artist, author, and Renaissance man Thom Breitenbach on October 15 at 4:30pm; and “Needle Felting 3D: Fantasy Creatures and More” with fiber artist Sally Ziegler on October 22 at 4:30pm.

This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by CREATE Council on the Arts.
