Nicholas D. Bodnar, of Livingstonville, left us on Friday, January 3, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a loving papa and a life member of the Town of Broome Volunteer Fire Department.
Born 77 years ago on February 13, 1947 in Amityville, NY, Nick was the second child of Katherine (Lavick) and Nicholas A. Bodnar. He graduated from Lindenhurst High School, fulfilled his military duty and was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force, where he was an Aircraft Mechanic and Weapon Loader. He spent 32 years working in the Communications industry as a lineman and cable splicer for Verizon, where he was respected for his hard work, dedication, and expertise.
Nick loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting, enjoyed cruising, traveling in the RV, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling and woodworking in his free time. He was also known for his problem-solving skills. Nick was constantly tinkering and modifying things around the house to make them more useful and he loved building things for his grandchildren. He liked to experiment with recipes he had seen on TV to increase their food experiences. He had an infectious smile, pretty blue eyes, a kind heart and willingness to help others.
Nick met the love of his life, Sharon (Borgert) on a blind date and they were married for 54 loving and wonderful years. They were blessed with 2 children and eventually 4 grandchildren, whom they loved and adored. Nick was a dedicated family man who cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He was a man of integrity, always putting his family's needs above his own. He will be loved forever by his wife Sharon; his children: Amanda (Ira Hersch) and Nicholas G. (Kimberly); his grandchildren; Nicholas P., Emma, David and Daniel; and many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly. He was predeceased by his parents and sisters: Kathleen Blundo, Christine Rollino and his brother-in-law John Blundo.
All are invited to visit with Nick’s family from 5:00-7:00PM on Friday, January 10, 2025 at Coltrain Funeral Home LLC, 134 River Street, Middleburgh, NY.
