Mary Palazzolo’s birthday was Jan. 12. She was treated to a wonderful birthday dinner with husband Steve, son Stevie and daughter Carly at the Prominence Restaurant in Windham on Jan. 11.
Glenn Howard is a very pleased with the results of his recent cataract surgery. He is amazed by the brilliant colors and being able to see without his glasses. He said people won’t recognize him without his glasses. He’s been wearing them since he was 5 years old.
On Jan. 18, there was a fire in a building in the hamlet of West Kill that is partially occupied by the West Kill Post Office. Through the outstanding efforts of the Lexington Fire/Rescue Company, Prattsville, Jewett, Hunter, Haines Falls, and Hensonville Fire Companies, the building was saved. Thank you to all our volunteers, firefighters, law enforcement, EMS, who are dedicated and answer the call. You are all heroes.

The Soup and Fellowship Kitchen is Tuesday, Jan. 28 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Blue Room at the Kaaterskill UMC, 5942 Main Street, Tannersville. Everyone is welcome to enjoy a free bowl of soup and sandwich and fellowship.
Potluck Dinner Church will be held on Friday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. at the Ashland UMC, 12216 Route 23, Ashland. All are invited to attend.

The Kaaterskill UMC Food Pantry is open to all on Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The pantry is located by the Tannersville Firehouse, at the Tannersville Village Hall, One Park Lane, Tannersville. The third Saturday of the month from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., contingent on volunteer availability, is for delivery to folks who do not have transportation. The Food Pantry is now also providing food for pets. If you are in need of pet food, spay and neuter assistance, contact Partners in Animal Welfare at www.upstatenypaw.org or info.upstatenypaw@gmail.com or call 518-567-3487. If you would like to help Kaaterskill UMC Food Pantry, you can also drop food off at Brave the Flames Restaurant, when open and Tannersville Village Hall during the week.
The Greene County Senior Nutrition Program menu for the week of Jan. 27 – Jan. 31 is as follows: Monday—Sweet and sour chicken, oriental mixed vegetables, white rice, mandarin oranges/pineapple; Tuesday—Roasted chicken legs with gravy, sweet potatoes, green beans, rice pudding with raisins; Wednesday—Hungarian goulash, spinach, red cabbage, egg noodles, brownie; Thursday—French onion pork chop, California vegetable mix, egg noodles, apple crisp; Friday—Tortellini meatball, Italian mixed vegetables, fresh fruit. All persons over the age of 60 can receive a meal. Suggested donation for each meal is $4. Those wishing to receive a meal are required to call the respective location by noon a day in advance. The number to call for the Senior Service Center at the Jewett Municipal Building, Route 23C, Jewett is 518-263-4392.
The Advisory Council to the Greene County Department for the Aging (Human Services) announces that nominations are being accepted for the annual Greene County Senior Citizen Awards. The two awards, presented annually, are Senior Citizen of the Year and Outstanding Contribution by a Senior Citizen. The purpose of the awards is to recognize the outstanding contributions and achievements of senior citizens who have volunteered their time and energy to help other people, their communities, and/or special projects. The dedication of these volunteers help to make Greene County a better place for all of us. The individual chosen on the county level will then represent Greene County for recognition for New York State awards.
Any Greene County resident, age 60 or older, can be nominated for these awards. Achievements must be voluntary in nature, performed in Greene County and not part of paid employment. Past award winners may be nominated only if seven or more years have passed since last recognized.
If you know someone who deserves this recognition, contact the Greene County Department of Human Services at 518-719-3555 for official nomination form. Incomplete forms will not be considered as eligible. Any inquires for further information may also be directed to the department. Deadline for entries is Friday, Jan. 31, 2025.
