DELHI —On February 11, 2025, Lawrence A. Painter, Jr, 35, of Sidney, pled guilty to Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree.
On November 27, 2024, Officer Kevin McEwan was manning the Sidney Village Police Station, when a woman came and reported that her ex-boyfriend, Lawrence Painter, Jr., had come to her apartment and hit her in the face. The woman, who is going unnamed per office policy, had been previously issued an order of protection mandating Mr. Painter stay away from the victim. Officer McEwan and Officer Daniel Petersen tracked down Mr. Painter and placed him under arrest.
On February 11, 2025, Mr. Painter was brought before the Delaware County Court and pleaded guilty to Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree. Pursuant to a negotiated plea agreement it is envisioned that Mr. Painter will serve one year in the Delaware County Correctional Facility. Sentencing is currently set for April 22, 2025.
District Attorney Shawn Smith thanked law enforcement for their response in this case. “I want to thank Officers Kevin McEwan and Daniel Petersen of the Sidney Village Police Department for their quick response on November 27, 2024. Thanks to their efforts, a victim was kept safe from further harm, and a violent offender was taken off our streets.”
First Assistant District Attorney Schuyler Konior Kinneman prosecuted the case.
