BROOME - At 2:55am Monday, firefighters from several companies quickly responded to and knocked down a fire in the Town of Broome.
Tri-Village Fire Co. Inc. was dispatched to a working fire in the Town of Broome Fire District along with Middleburgh Fire Department. A quick response and knock down by the first arriving Middleburgh engine kept the fire, extension and damage to a minimum, officials said.
Tri-Village responded with 12 and assisted in overhaul and clean up. This was Tri-Village's fifth working fire in two months, four of the five have been from misuse, improper installation, malfunctioning or improper handling of heating equipment. The fifth was an improper disposal of a cigarette.
Officials urge homeowners to be careful and be diligent when using wood heat or when thawing pipes. Four of the five residents will be able to fix their homes thanks to the quick actions of firefighters.
