Help Us Pick the Persons of the Year

Written By The Mountain Eagle on 2/6/25 | 2/6/25

It's that time of the year again! The time when the Mountain Eagle selects its Person of the Year in Schoharie, Delaware, and Greene counties.

We will ask for your help. Who in each of Schoharie, Delaware, or Greene counties should be considered for our person of the year? The announcements will be made soon.

Tell us who and why in a comment! Or feel free to message us or email us at mountaineaglenews@gmail.com.

We have already gotten some nominations via our Facebook page.

Those include:

* Josh Sutton: I would be honored to nominate Donald VanEtten. Donnie, as everyone knows him, has served his community for well over 20 years through his dedication to the Stamford Fire Department. A majority of those years spent as a Chief Officer. Donnie now serves all of Delaware County as a County Fire Coordinator. Donnie has dedicated his work with the Robinson Broadhurst Foundation to the local area providing grants for things such as the Stamford pool, items for school athletics as well as many others. Outside of his dedicated service to the area, Donnie is constantly contributing to local kids, whether through use of the fire house for youth sports fundraising, contributing to special causes as well as putting on Halloween, Christmas events. Donnie has a wonderful family and you will see him religiously at their events, even when his schedule is so busy. Donnie has always put others first and helped whoever he can. There is so much more I could say about the man, but I will leave this here for now. Please consider Donnie VanEtten, a great fixture and huge asset to this entire area.

Rachelle Rogers, Catherine Snyder, and Judy Henne also supported this nomination.
