SCHOHARIE — A representative of the Local 669 Sprinklers Union met with students at the Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical Education Center – Schoharie Campus on Feb. 10 to speak about careers in their industry.
Students in the Automotive Trades Technology, Heavy Equipment Repair and Operation, Welding and Metal Fabrication and Electrical Trades programs heard from union representative Tim Coleman about the need for young blood in the industry and how lucrative careers can be.
He detailed wages and earnings and guided the students on the process for seeking membership in the union, which oversees the installation and repair of fire suppression sprinkler systems
Students said the presentation was very thorough.
I liked the presentation, especially how the wages and salary increases were explained. I had many questions, all of which were answered,” said Cody Vannie, an Automotive Trades Technology senior from Duanesburg. Vannie plans to interview with the union in the coming days.
February is national Career and Technical Education month and Capital Region BOCES is celebrating it with a series of events at its Career and Technical Education Center – Albany and Schoharie campuses. The events highlight the unique partnership BOCES maintains with more than 300 business, education and labor organizations
