MIDDLEBURGH -WASHINGTON D.C. - Middleburgh high school students had a "historically" fun and educational time in Washington D.C. last month.

About 50 students plus chaperones left on a cold Sunday morning to view the inauguration of President Donald Trump and visit some of the sites in the nation's Capital.

Students Kiera Hall, a 10th grader, 11th graders Sophia Patino, Caleb Mickle, and Ev Kelley, and 12th grader Faith Rogers spoke to the school board about the trip at the board's February 12 meeting.

The unforgettable trip gave 50 Middleburgh high school students the chance to explore the heart of our nation and attend the presidential inauguration.

The students left at 7am on January 19 on a tour bus for Washington D.C. to view the inauguration of President Trump. They also visited several sites in the nation's capital over their three-day trip.

Ms. Kelley said it was great to see how everything is connected and in person.

"It's not real until you see them," she said. "You can see them in the classroom, but seeing them in person is different."

Another student said she was very impressed that the tour bus driver was about to parallel park a bus that included only students and no chaperones.

The students said they toured all the memorials including the one recognizing September 11. "It helped me connect with everything that happened that day," one student recalled. MCS added a class this year about September 11 and the events of that day.

Students also went to the Holocaust Museum.

Social Studies teacher Jason Dannible noted that the students are "one of the last generations to be able to hear Holocaust survivors" in person. "It's our duty to carry on that story."
