MIDDLEBURGH — The MCS Alumni Association met in the Middleburgh Public Library in March, June, and November of 2024. In July, the association had a booth at the Middleburgh Arts and Crafts Festival with Alumni clothing offered and information available. At the Fall Festival in October, the MCSAA set up a display of school memorabilia in the Jr./Sr gym lobby. The lobby was also the starting point for popular school tours hosted for alumni and families. Superintendent Mark Place was the tour guide for three tours which totaled about 40 people.
This is the 13th year the MCSAA has given an award at high school graduation. Applicants submitted letters of recommendation and a 500- word essay on a topic selected by the Alumni Association. This year’s essay topic was to “Compare/Contrast Home Schooling with In-School Attendance.” The award went to Liam Hooper and was given in memory of MCS employees who had recently passed away.
One of the missions of the MCSAA is the preservation of school history. In June, the association wrote a letter to the school with some suggestions and guidelines for the MCS Yearbook which is recognized as an important part of preserving school history. Future plans are to update the 2009 Anniversary Book which lists MCS graduates since 1886 as well as renovations to the building and program changes since the last booklet in 2009. Restoration of some graduation pictures, which have faded with time, is still on the project list. The MCSAA continues to welcome items of school history, memorabilia and class photos.
All alumni and friends of Middleburgh Central School are invited to join the Alumni Association in their efforts to provide alumni fellowship activities and promote interest in MCS. Like many organizations today, new members and participation in planning are very important. The first meeting of 2025 will be at 10:15 AM on Thursday, March 20 in the Middleburgh Public Library. Mark your calendars and come support our Alma Mater.
