A copy of this letter was also sent to the DEC.
I am writing as a citizen, a business owner, and as a member participating in the updating of our comprehensive plan in the Village and Town of Schoharie. I am attaching data collected throughout the last year and a half as we revise the plan to meet the needs of our citizens. We do not need or want an expansion of Cobleskill Stone Quarry in the village and as a matter of extreme concern we do not want it effecting our water source and supply. No single entity is allowed to disrupt the safety in a village to the extent CSP is proposing. The people have spoken and allowing further expansion is a direct overstep of the wants and needs of the residents of this village and town. If you need additional data I am able to provide.
Other Recommendations for Town and Village of Schoharie Comprehensive Plan
1. Mining. 75% of the survey participants (of almost 600 people) indicated that mining was not needed anywhere in the Town and Village of Schoharie. It was the land use least desired by the community. 4% said mining should take place in Central Bridge, 4% at 1-88, and 7% in the Village. Specific additional comments to the survey indicated concerns related to mining including blasting near the school, truck traffic through the Village, adverse impacts on business attraction on Main Street, road maintenance, disruptions to pedestrian use of Village, and safety. For this reason, expansion of commercial mines should be prohibited.
