Obituaries - Emmett G. “Buck” Mahoney

Emmett G. “Buck” Mahoney, of MT Path, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

Born in Schenectady 88 years ago on October 1, 1936, to Ethelma (Randolph) and Emmett G. Mahoney, he graduated from the former Mont Pleasant High School in 1955 and attended both Mohawk Valley and Hudson Valley Technical Institutes, majoring in Electrical Engineering. Buck served in the United States Army from 1958-1961.  He was assigned to the Nike Hercules atomic warhead support team at Camp Hanford in Hanford, Washington and Los Angeles.

Buck worked for Mohawk Development Company and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory on drafting projects and patent drawings from 1961-1963 and then with the NYS Department of Transportation, bridge design section, retiring in 1991 as an Assistant Civil Engineer.

Buck was a member of the NYS Transportation Engineers and the Timothy Murphy POST 1261 American Legion.  He was a former member of the Grace Methodist Church in Schenectady, the BPOE Cobleskill and Rotterdam lodges, and the Wright-Schoharie Lions Club.

In retirement, he and his wife owned Midd-Scho Video on Route 30 in Middleburgh for a number of years.  They spent a few years living in Inverness, Florida and eventually moved back home to Middleburgh.

Buck is survived by his daughter: Cythia (Paul) Brauer of Middleburgh; grandson: Paul (Stacy)Brauer, III.; great-grandson: Isaac Brauer of Alleghany, NY; sister-in-law: Helene Curran of Cobleskill; brother-in-law: Otis R. (Shirley) Lawyer of Schoharie;

several nieces and nephews. Buck was predeceased by his wife: Virginia (Lawyer) Mahoney and his sisters: Shirley De Masi and Janet Arros.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held in the spring in Breakabeen Cemetery.
