Saturday, Feb. 15 at 11 a.m., is the Annual Bake Sale Fundraiser for the Friends of the Feathered and Furry Wildlife Center at the Sunoco Station in Tannersville. If you can bake something to help the animals, please let Dave know by messaging or calling 518-965-1864. Tannersville Ice Sculpture Festival is Saturday. Feb. 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Main Street. Bring your tools and carve a sculpture. Number to call for info is 518-858-9094. Third Tuesday of the month, Feb. 18, come over to the Hunter Public Library, 7965 Main Street, at 10.30 a.m. to play Bingo.

Sunday, Feb. 23, 10 a.m. to noon, is the Children’s Ice Fishing Derby sponsored by The Catskill Mountain Fish and Game Club and The Stony Clove Rod and Gun Club. Registration starts at 9 a.m. at the Rip Van Winkle/Tannersville Lake. Prizes for the largest fish and the most fish in both the junior and senior division. Open to children up to 16 years old–children 16 years of age must have a valid fishing license. You may fish with up to three tip ups or hand lines and use single hooks only. Live bait and some tip ups will be available for use, For more info, call Bob Monteleone at 518-488-0240. 

The Greene County Senior Nutrition Program menu for the week of Feb. 17 - Feb. 21 is as follows: Monday–Department of Human Services main office and all Senior Nutrition sites close for Presidents Day; Tuesday–BBQ chicken thighs, baked beans, carrots, pineapple; Wednesday–Pork chop with gravy, applesauce, old fashioned vegetables, sweet potato, red velvet cookies; Thursday–Meatloaf with gravy, green beans, baked potato, fresh fruit; Friday–Beer battered fish, O’Brien potatoes, Brussel sprouts, tossed salad, fresh fruit. All persons age 60 and older and spouses, are invited to attend. Congregate meals served at noon Monday through Friday. Suggested donation is $4 per meal. Congregate dining reservations are required by noon at least a day in advance. If you reserve a meal and are unable to attend, please call as soon as you can to cancel. This helps reduce our food waste. If you have food allergy, please notify us. Allergen information is available for prepared food items. The number to call for the Senior Services Center at the Jewett Municipal Building, Route 23C, Jewett, is 518-263-4392. 

The Kaaterskill UMC Food Pantry is open to all on Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The pantry is located by the Tannersville Firehouse, at the Tannersville Village Hall, One Park Lane, Tannersville. The third Saturday of the month from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., contingent on volunteer availability, is for delivery to folks who do not have transportation. The Food Pantry is now also providing food for pets. If you are in need of pet food, spay and neuter assistance, contact Partners in Animal Welfare at www,upstatenypaw.org or info,upstatenypaw@gmail.com or call 518-567-3487. If you would like to help the Kaaterskill UMC Food Pantry, you can drop food off at Brave the Flames Restaurant, when open and Tannersville Village Hall during the week.

Because of the recent fire in the building that houses the West Kill Post Office, mail for West Kill Post Office is currently being sorted in the Shandaken Post Office and being held for P. O. Box holders to pick up. Shandaken PO hours are Monday through Friday – 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Amy, the rural mail carrier, is able to continue delivering to her customers on her normal West Kill rural mail routes. An Essay Contest is being sponsored by Greene County American Legion open to all Greene County students grades 7 through 12. The theme is: “What Memorial Day Means To Me.” The essay should be 300 words or less and must include a cover sheet with student’s name, school the student attends and grade. School will be notified of the winner. Mail postmarked by May 2, 2025 to G. C. A. L. Essay Contest, P.O. Box 21, Athens, NY 12015. Winning prize keeps going up thanks to the generosity of individuals and companies involved. 

Thank you to all law enforcement, firefighters, EMS, dispatchers, healthcare providers, volunteers, veterans and actively serving military, farmers, truck drivers and so many more. Prayers for all who are dealing with loss, illnesses, healing, difficulties, our country, our military and their families, the world.
