SCHOHARIE — The Schoharie County Historical Society is hosting local historian Jon Jasewicz as General Philip Schuyler on February 22 at 2:00 pm at the Badgley Museum Annex.

Philip Schuyler (1733–1804) was a major general in the Continental Army during the American Revolution. In 1775, General Washington gave Schuyler command over the New York Department of the Continental Army. He played a key role in the American victory at the Battle of Saratoga, as well as in earlier campaigns, including the Invasion of Canada, and the Battles of Lake Champlain and Fort Ticonderoga. Schuyler also served as an Indian Commissioner, attempting to gain the support of the Six Nations Confederacy against the British.

Jon Jasewicz is a historian primarily focused on the colonial period in New York’s Capital Region and Mohawk Valley. He has been a living historian for nearly a decade, and has co-authored papers such as “‘Led Into The Fire Of The Whole Body Of The Enemy’: Archaeological Survey Of The Stone Arabia Battlefield 19 October 1780.”
